Richard Jordan
set a blistering
pace in the 3rd
annual Rowhedge
10k organised by
the Colchester
Harriers
Athletic Club in
conjunction with
the Rowhedge
Heritage Trust.
The event marks
the start of the
annual Rowhedge
Regatta
celebrations and
drew runners
from various
clubs across the
county and
further afield.
The undulating
course presented
the 110 runners
with a challenge
of numerous
hills plus 1.2km
off road rough
track through
scenic Essex
countryside.

Jordan from
Stowmarket
Stiders led the
race for the
entire distance
followed closely
by the first
lady (Jennie
Roberts of
Ipswich Jaffa)
to the 5km mark
but then drew
away to finish
in style in a
time of 36.08.
Gt. Bentley
runners David
Green and Tom
Clayton
eventually
finished just
ahead of Jennie
Roberts in a
time of 38.21
and 39.03
respectively,
with Jennie
setting a new
female course
record in a
commendable
time(39.40).
Danielle Hurley
was second lady
in a time of
41.28 with
fellow
Colchester and
Tendring A/C
runner Nicola
Pyle taking
third place in
44.12. Leigh
Barringer for
Colchester
Harriers A/C
stormed home in
5th
position in an
exciting time of
39.23.

Other notable
achievements
were winners in
the veteran
classes. 1st
male V40 won by
Geoffrey
Tomlinson (Gt
Bentley), 1st
V50 Roger
Everard (Pitsea
Running Club)
and 1st
V60 Roger
Farrance (Thrift
Green Trotters).
Colchester
Harriers A/C
runner Debbie
Cattermole
showed
determination
over the
challenging
course to take
V35 place. V45
was won by
Lorraine Wilkin
of Colchester
and Tendring A/C
and V55 won by
Theresa
Flannigan of
Pitsea Running
Club.
Men’s Team
prizes were
taken by Gt
Bentley Running
Club members
(David Green,
Tom Clayton and
Geoffrey
Tomlinson).
Ladies Team
prizes were
taken by
Colchester
Harriers A/C
(Debbie
Cattermole,
Emily Bowen and
Melanie Moore).
Other Harriers
to finish in
good style were
Arthur Winston,
John Hill, Paul
Dowell, Martin
Sainty, Sue
Sorrell and
Lance Williams.
All
prizes were
presented to the
runners by
current leader
of Colchester
Council, Cllr.
John Jowers
aided by sponsor
for the third
year running
Martin Hopkins
of Birkett Long
Solicitors.
