Richard Jordan set a blistering pace in the 3rd annual Rowhedge 10k organised by the Colchester Harriers Athletic Club in conjunction with the Rowhedge Heritage Trust. The event marks the start of the annual Rowhedge Regatta celebrations and drew runners from various clubs across the county and further afield. The undulating course presented the 110 runners with a challenge of numerous hills plus 1.2km off road rough track through scenic Essex countryside.

Jordan from Stowmarket Stiders led the race for the entire distance followed closely by the first lady (Jennie Roberts of Ipswich Jaffa) to the 5km mark but then drew away to finish in style in a time of 36.08. Gt. Bentley runners David Green and Tom Clayton eventually finished just ahead of Jennie Roberts in a time of 38.21 and 39.03 respectively, with Jennie setting a new female course record in a commendable time(39.40). Danielle Hurley was second lady in a time of 41.28 with fellow Colchester and Tendring A/C runner Nicola Pyle taking third place in 44.12. Leigh Barringer for Colchester Harriers A/C stormed home in 5th position in an exciting time of 39.23.

Other notable achievements were winners in the veteran classes. 1st male V40 won by Geoffrey Tomlinson (Gt Bentley), 1st V50 Roger Everard (Pitsea Running Club) and 1st V60 Roger Farrance (Thrift Green Trotters). Colchester Harriers A/C runner Debbie Cattermole showed determination over the challenging course to take V35 place. V45 was won by Lorraine Wilkin of Colchester and Tendring A/C and V55 won by Theresa Flannigan of Pitsea Running Club.

Men’s Team prizes were taken by Gt Bentley Running Club members (David Green, Tom Clayton and Geoffrey Tomlinson). Ladies Team prizes were taken by Colchester Harriers A/C (Debbie Cattermole, Emily Bowen and Melanie Moore).

Other Harriers to finish in good style were Arthur Winston, John Hill, Paul Dowell, Martin Sainty, Sue Sorrell and Lance Williams.

All prizes were presented to the runners by current leader of Colchester Council, Cllr. John Jowers aided by sponsor for the third year running Martin Hopkins of Birkett Long Solicitors. Further results can be found on the Colchester Harriers website: www.colchesterharriers.co.uk
